CMS - Content Management System
Definitions:
In order to understand what a content management system is, how it works, and why we believe ours is the best, we must first define some terms.
- CMS - Content Management System
- Frontend - The page that your visitors see when they come to your website
- Backend - The workings behind the scene that make your website function
- Administrator - The backend area that you can access to make changes to your website that will show up on the front end.
- Database - The backend structure that your whole website works from. Only the web administrator or host will ever see this, but nevertheless it is still there.
- Mysql - The type of database that most CMS use. Again most people will never know this is here, but nevertheless it is still working in the background, making your site "dynamic".
- Dynamic Content - The content on your frontend that is placed for your visitor to see by pulling information from the backend database that your CMS is setup in.
1. What is a content managment system?
* In todays world of websites and technology there are so many terms that we use that the normal person who has no computer knowledge would never understand. Content Managment System, which we will refer to in the future as a CMS is simply the brains behind the website. Most content management systems today are written with a combination of php and html. Those pages then connect to a Mysql database in the backend, or as some would call the server. This process gives you the ability to update your website from a backend administrator from any browser with an internet connection. This also allows for what we call dynamic content. Dynamic content is always changing and instead of each page of your website being like a brochure that is flat, you now have a page that is an "engine" of sorts which pulls data from the database and dynamically reproduces it on the frontend of the website. This frontend is what you see when you type in your browser and go to a website.
2. Why should we go with a company that uses a CMS with a GPL License?
* A GPL license means that anyone can develop the framework as long as they don't alter some of the core codes or resell it as there own. The advantage to the GPL license is that 1000's of developers are constantly making new components and modules for the system. This means that you get a multi million dollar product at a fraction of the cost. This also means that there is constant developement of better technology and tighter development of security releases.
